Saaristohotelli Vaihela is located in the beautiful and experience-rich Turku Archipelago, on the island of Velkuanmaa, only 45 kilometres from central Turku. You can reach us easily by car, motorcycle, bicycle or boat, and we kindly ask that bookings are made primarily through the Moder booking system.

Built in 2002, our hotel is delighted to welcome all its guests. Our archipelago hotel features 11 neat double rooms that combine comfort, a peaceful atmosphere and carefully finished amenities.
Each room has its own colour palette and distinct interior style. The balcony rooms offer views over the courtyard area and toward the sea, while guests staying in the patio room can enjoy calming forest scenery.

The history of Vaihela
Part of the history of the Wahekylä farm, located on the island of Velkuanmaa, dates back to 1867, when Juho Erland Gabrielinpoika acquired the estate. For four generations, fishing, forestry and agriculture were practiced at Wahekylä farm. As late as the early 1990s, the farm’s cowshed was home to a herd of 50 cattle, but the owners at the time, Katariina and Matti Vaihela, decided to expand the business into tourism. Two rental cottages and Sunday buffet lunches gave momentum to the farm’s move into the travel industry. Later, Vaihela’s current owners, Mirja and Janne Sievänen, brought fresh new ideas and development to the business.
The farm’s main building has seen and experienced a great deal over the past 150 years. Its appearance and upright character, however, have remained the same. In the late 1990s, a stunning and atmospheric wine cellar was completed in the courtyard, with space for up to 4,000 bottles of wine. At the same time, the Korkki restaurant and a private sauna were built above the cellar. Around the turn of the 2000s, the Saaristohotelli Halssi, together with its kitchen and restaurant halls, completed Vaihela’s transformation into a full-service tourism destination in the heart of the archipelago.
